The Beginning

It all started with 4 die-hard golfers several years ago (as far back as 2004) who started arranging for games via internet email for Saturday mornings at Changi Golf Club in Singapore. This small group slowly expanded to include cameo guests like Roland and Chee, followed shortly by permanent features of Dwight and Tom, our father and son team. Over time, the group welcomed the (noisy and playful) Young Tigers a sizable group of recreational golfers, all are members from the Changi Golf Club.

On one fine Saturday afternoon after our regular golf game in March this year (2008), someone suggested to form a social playing group to keep all these golfing friends within the network. The idea was immediately supported by everyone present. This marked the birth of The Changi Duffers.

Over the next couple of weeks, the formation of the Changi Duffers took place rapidly. Committee was formed, Captain was elected, and the Raymond Cup, named after our captain Raymond Chan, is assigned as the coveted prize to be won in our annual tournament.

Our Captain, Mr Raymond Chan, is an easy-going guy with a wide and friendly smile. He is ever-ready for any challenge that gives him his morning rush of adrenaline.

Before the end of April, 2008, the Duffers had became a 22 members group. The response was so overwhelming that we decided to temporary close the door for new member admission. This measure is temporally and purely to enable the management committee to go through the learning curve in running a social recreation group, before the member size grows too big.

The Goals

The primary objective of the Changi Duffers is to enhance a stronger bonding of friendship among the regular golf playing members in the Changi Golf Club and to create more fun and enthusiasm into the game of golf. In years to come, we hope to grow the membership, thus widening the network and community in Changi Golf Club.

With these objectives in mind, the Duffers will organize four tournament annually, including the Raymond Cup, within and beyond our home club. Non golf activities shall also be organized to include the family of the members, providing a platform for the fellow duffers to develop their friendship further than just "golfing-kakis".

Various competition formats will be played in our tournaments, to provide some of our less experience duffers a better understanding how these formats are played.

Winners of the Duffers' competition are also assigned to help and coach the "lychee" to improve their game for a more enjoyable round of golf.
